Amosun inaugurates technical committee for proposed Abiola university
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has promised to fast-track the establishment of the Moshood Abiola University of Technology, Abeokuta, immediately the National Universities Commission (NUC) issues a licence for its take-off.
Amosun gave this indication while inaugurating an 11 member technical committee to midwife the upgrading of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic into the proposed university.
According to him, the decision for the upgrade of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic to a University of Science and Technology and the establishment of the Ogun State Polytechnic, was to ensure that the his administration leaves a lasting legacy in the education sector in the state.
The governor advised the members of the committee to bring their wealth of experience gathered over the years in university management and administration to bear and fast track the establishment of the institutions, stressing the need for the committee to facilitate and obtain all necessary approvals for the take-off of the institutions.
The committee, headed by former executive secretary of NUC, Professor Peter Okebukola, has as members the registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Professor Ishaq Oloyede, the vice chancellor of the University of Lagos,Professor Rahman Bello, former chief of staff to the governor, Professor Olatunde Ganiyu, Bola Bankole, Rahim Jimoh, and Doctor Ebenezer Nkom.
The rector of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Professor Oladele Itiola will serve as secretary to the committee.
Amosun said the technical committee will also produced a blueprint for the implementation of the proposed Ogun State Polytechnic, Ipokia.
The committee chairman, Professor Okebukola told the governor that the template of two global universities of technology will be adopted to set up the standard for the proposed university.
